It is true what people say.

"You never know what you have, until you lose it.
And once you lose it, you'll never get it back".

I'm glad that we are still friends.
And that he still loves me, well, in a way.

You never know what you have, until you lose it. And once you lose it, you'll never get it back

After 7 years, I'm still getting bracelet from him.
Most of the time, he would choose ones that disperse negativity,
promotes good luck and improve communication and social life.

I admit that these are the qualities that I need to get rid of / lacking of.
I take full responsibility of my weaknesses.

Wearing the bracelet he gave me, gives me bravery to face the new year
with a bolder attitude, and it gave me a feeling that I'll have a blessed 2014.

A song dedication for the special someone.

Bon Jovi - Thank You For Loving Me

It's hard for me to say the things
I want to say sometimes
There's no one here but you and me
And that broken old street light
Lock the doors
We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words tonight

[Chorus:]

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me
Thank you for loving me

I never knew I had a dream
Until that dream was you
When I look into your eyes
The sky's a different blue
Cross my heart
I wear no disguise
If I tried, you'd make believe
That you believed my lies

[Chorus:]

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
For parting my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

You pick me up when I fall down
You ring the bell before they count me out
If I was drowning you would part the sea
And risk your own life to rescue me

[Solo]

Lock the doors
We'll leave the world outside
All I've got to give to you
Are these five words tonight

[Chorus:]

Thank you for loving me
For being my eyes
When I couldn't see
You parted my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

When I couldn't fly
Oh, you gave me wings
You parted my lips
When I couldn't breathe
Thank you for loving me

Have you ever been ignored for a long time by someone u considered a good friend?

Ignoring as in have not been bugging you as often as they used to, messaging you irrelevant stuff just their way of saying "HI", dating you out for a meal etc?

And this happened out of a sudden. Without warning or hint that something is wrong. How does it makes you feel?

I can answer that. It SUCKS.

Coz in all those time that they have ignored you, comes an ultimate question... "WHY? DID I DO SOMETHING WRONG?".

I've been in the exact same situation for numerous times last year. And with my attitude for always in need to keeping things straight, would seek for clarification.

In all the situation that I've been ignored, the answer is that they did it on purpose due to some "complicated situation" that they are facing. But I'm glad that we cleared things up and instantly became friends back and turned out to be closer than ever!

But I'm forced to deal with this situation again now. WHAT DID I DO WRONG?

I wish that people could just talk to me. Taking this step is just as good as breaking a friendship, forgetting all the bonding and trust we have built all these while as friends.

What does friendship mean if you can just delete them away from your life?

2013 has been quite a year for me.
Starting off pretty harsh taking into consideration of the sad trail of end 2012.

Nevertheless, it was the pain, the sadness, the harsh truth of life,
that put me up into the very best of 2013.

It was the most productive year of my life - yes it is!

Early 2013.. I was looking for a distraction.
And I thought it was merely to distract me from my negative feelings,
and somehow one thing led to another and I am getting more excited
of knowing new things, and doing things I never thought I would do!

 1) BE A BETTER SWIMMER

FAILED. Still intended to learn freestyle and thread water.
Any patient coach that wouldn't vomit blood teaching me?

2) DIVE @ SIPADAN

Proud to say that this is a MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
It all started from overcoming my fear of water which was scary!
I then forced myself to take up license for my OWC,
and finally, to dive at the much-talked about diving paradise, Sipadan.
It was beautiful. Haven't get to blog about it yet.. time time time...

3) HIKE UP MOUNT KK

Hell yeah I've conquered the mountain! MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!
It took months of preparation and training, and I've realized
that it's all bullshit when people tells me that I'm always sick and thus,
too weak to be climbing any mountain, needless to say Mount KK.
Now I'm a living proof that the mental strength overcomes all the physical weakness in you!

4) TO BE HAPPY AGAIN !

This is a little hard to judge. I am happy now. But I could be happier.
I'll never give up on this, and in 2014, I'll be heading for it with
my bull's head running furious, hard and strong!

5) 42 KG !!!

I figure how could this end up in my resolution 2013 at the first place?
It is impossible for the petite me to lose 3kgs! But in a year? FML!
Fine, I'll get this done in 2014 - hopefully.
More carrot sticks, no fries.
More push ups, no bumming around.
More sleep, no zombie-ing.

Now that I've got some unfinished business to do, it shall be carried forward to 2014.
Leaving me ample of time to laze around for awhile before working my arse out again. Tee-hee!

Aside from 2013 resolution, there are also some turnaround of events
in terms of my career, friendship and social life.

During the good and bad times, were also times when I lost
some friends, and realized who are the one who genuinely cares for me.
Friends who always stood by me as my pillar of strength.
I thank you all for accepting me for who I am.
And could I just selfishly request that we have more of these years to come?

Second half of 2013 has hit me hard as I've lost a dear friend.
I've known Jebsen for 8 years, he was Vince best friend.
He was my foe-kind-of-friend.
What best described us is that we're like cats and dogs.
We would fight whenever we meet.
Cancer took him away from us.
And all I could wish for him now is that he rest in peace.
We misses you dearly my friend.

Photo taken when we were relatively young at age.. hehe!

Crawling towards end of 2013, I was getting a little anti-social.
Losing faith and trust in friends especially men, believing that each one has their
own agenda and hidden intention, I was afraid to give.
Spending time with them was like giving them opportunities to expose me,
to look into what's inside me, and to use it against me.
So I decided to just stay home and mingle with those I called close friends.

This has also affected my relationship with my family.
Was too sad and disappointed that I kept myself behind closed door.

And then the end of 2013 proves to be a challenging year for my career
as well as there were much uncertainties waiting for me.
I seemed to be pushing the wrong buttons everytime I make a move.
It could be lacking my sense of judgement, or perhaps I'm getting impatient?

That said, I'm looking forward to a better year. To be a better person.
Shoosh the snake and comes the horseeyyy!!!

Working out on my bucket list and hope I'll conquer all it!

Ain't no mountain high enough, ain't no river wide enough for me! :)

A mountain standing so mighty at the height of 4,095 metres in East Malaysia - Sabah, is a mountain I never thought I would be able to conquer.

Till today, I am still at awe reminiscing the moment where I was at the highest top of the Land Below The Wind.

Many may be in the same 'self-doubt phase' as me before the climb, and I hope this blog would somehow help in giving my share bits of motivation. I am not in position to give the best advice, but the preparation I made for the climb did assure me a safe, relax, and successful climb.

Before the climb... these are the few things that you must do.

1) Climb... alot! - If you are not an outdoor person like me, do make sure that you hike / exercise few months before the actual climb. It helps to get your body and muscles prepared for a long hike.

2) Get the right attire - To get a proper shoe is a MUST. I didn't invest much on a hiking shoe, just a RM9.90 rubber shoe I got from Cameron Highlands. You can get it at any hardware shops I believe. The second day hike from Laban Rata to Low's Peak can be as cold as -1°C  (depending on rain and season). I'm all prepared for the worst when I get myself a pair of long john (top & bottom from Universal Traveler), a windproof and waterproof pants (from Universal Traveler), gloves (from Universal Traveler too), beanie I borrowed from dad, balaclava Vince lend me, and a thick sweater sponsored by SP Setia. Do not forget to get a head lamp too! It is compulsory on the second day hike. Get a raincoat for both days.

3) Be mentally prepared - We are lucky to have Kevin Wong to give us a motivational speech prior to our climb. It was a half-day session, and I would like to summarize the session with these quotes.

"Keep your head and your heart in the right direction,
and you'll never have to worry about your feet"

"The distance between success and failure can only be measured by one's desire"

It is really important to believe that all you wanted to achieve - is to set foot at the peak,
nothing lower than the peak. This goal - must be your sole belief.
Because beliefs are essentially our on / off switch for our ability to do anything in the world.

4) Altitude sickness pill - Most of the climbers who failed to reach the peak of Mount KK is due to altitude sickness. You don't want to have symptoms like nausea, migraine, headache, vomiting during your climb, coz there's no turning back. So get some AMS pills and take it 3 days before the climb to avoid this.

Now that you are physically and mentally prepared, get ready for a journey that would change your perspective in life - thru a promising tropical adventure! :)

All 39 of us from the second batch of SP Setia Mount KK 2013 Expedition

During the hike to Laban Rata....

1) This is not a race, climb at your own pace - The goal is to reach the top, not to race your friends to the top. Well, of course, only if you are in Mt. Kanabalu Climbathon. Else, I would suggest you to save that energy and enjoy what nature has to offer.

2) Grab a buddy - It is always so much fun to do things with people, than doing things alone. Whatsmore, a climb to remember! I was so lucky to have a buddy of the same pace, and constantly give encouraging words.

3) Pack your lunch box - Yeppp... nothing heavy, oily or spicy in the morning before the hike. Although there are many stops along the Mesilau / Timpohon trails, you wouldn't want to rush to the too-too. I would suggest to pack some bananas, chocolates, raisins, nuts, and energy drinks. Once reached Laban Rata, have a cup of hot Milo (bring your own 3 in 1 coz a cup of Milo at Laban Rata is going to cost you RM 6).

Having fun photo session makes you forget of the coming kilometers before Laban Rata...

During the hike to Low's Peak....

1) Cover yourself from head to toe - While everyone was shivering, my hands were sweaty and it felt pretty normal for me to remove my gloves to use my camera - the rest felt like they are going to have frostbite when doing that. I felt like this is one of the wisest decision I've made in my life - for keeping myself warm with the right attire.

2) Head lamp - Again... this is a must coz it's pitch dark when you start your journey from Laban Rata at 2am. Do bring some spare batteries in your bag pack coz the battery tends to drain faster in colder temperature.

Achievement that is gonna make me proud... "I come, I climb, I conquer"

Going down from Low's Peak to Kinabalu Park...

1) Just go with the flow - You'd be sooooo happy with your newly achieved mission and you'll be too busy to shout about it. So don't worry about going down. You have only one goal now - to go down. So... you pretty much get the idea.

Remember the raincoat I was telling?
It came handy when it gets cold on my way down - then it started to drizzles.

I extended my stay at Sabah with my buddies. Went snorkeling at Pulau Mamutik. Pulau Manukan and Pulau Sapi. It was awesooommeee.... could be better if it wasn't for the muscle pain I had for the next 3 days after the climb. Woo-hoooooo!!!

I hope this brief review on Mount KK climb is useful. I did not cover everything about it. Just some pointers based on my own experience.

Will be climbing again next year (I hope)... looking forward to Via Ferrata at Mount KK!!!

And how could I end this post just like this?

Weight : Extremely slow in losing weight but I'm almost there.
Target : 42kg.

Mum said I'm crazy. Others said I've got nothing more to lose.
Me : What you mean?! Tummy, arms buttocks, thighs, oh ya, where's my knees!!!

Mood : Busy. Lazy. Jolly. Talk about flexibility.

Work - Sport - Rest - Work - Sport - Rest - and the cycle never ends.

Missing Barry. Have not seen him for days.
Missing Alicia. Heard she's coping with baby Ayden. Bathing, feeding and poop cleaning.
Missing Rachel. Wonder how is she at Sabah.
Missing ET. As usual. When is he coming back?
Missing the gang (Kayvin, Sharon, Michelle, Azlan & Vivenn). I have to make time to visit Kayvin's cafe soon!

Am making plans for holiday with my bestie. First holiday with Vince. Weird. We have not been for any holiday in that 6 years of courtship. And the first trip that we are going to, is as ex-bf / ex-gf. But irregardless, I know I'm going to enjoy his companionship - as always.

Hope the trip is gonna work out as planned. Especially the diving part.

Some said I've changed. Once Joyce who always seek for serenity, peace, relaxing activities that involves only food and movies, has now changed to swimming, gym, hiking and WHAT? DIVING?!!!

They said I'm weird. As if I'm trying to prove something. Or avoid something.

Prolly all I wanted is to keep myself busy. Distracting me from nonsense thoughts, painful memories, bad feelings.

But the positive side of this is that, Joyce will no longer be the same. She is living her life to the max. Learning new things every single day. Little achievement satisfies her. Big achievement makes her proud. Enough of unhappiness and disappointment. Now Joyce can make herself happy and contented - in her own way - supported or not - she's going to do this.

Bukit Gasing last Saturday. Huff and puff yes. But I did it!
Apek Hill this coming Saturday with Setia Eagles. Will I soar... or sore?!!

So... wish me luck!

Till the next boring post, ADIOS and TAKE CARE!!!

Proceeding to my Day 3 report, I would like to thank
Rachel Koko for arranging night flight for us.

Allowing ample of time for us to do more sightseeing.

Day 3 Highlights

We took another tour package on the 3rd day to visit all the tourist attraction place.
I've been to all these before.. but some of it has been enhanced.

All 16 of us got ourselves a tour on private boat from
Green Ocean Holiday Sdn Bhd
and we paid only RM520 for the half day tour.

Places included are...

~ Mangrove River
~ Bat Cave
~ Crocodile Cave
~ Fish Farm & Feeding
~ Eagle Feeding

How could we miss jump shots? Photo taken infront of Jetty Kilim Geoforest Park.

Hey I've got a sexy back view! :P

2nd photo : Crocodile Cave with no crocodile at all.. reason for its name is because there is a rock
looking like a crocodile emerging from the water.. see that small rock there?
3rd photo : Fish Farm along the Mangrove River
4th photo : Stingray feeding time at the fish farm
5th photo : Eagle feeding on chicken skin

After a good shower, went off again for Cable Car ride and
to the Crocodile Farm. But to our dismay, we entered none.

Cable Car service is temporarily closed due to strong wind
and crocodile farm is not worth paying (RM15 p/pax).
Pity Aggie coz it was her wish to see kokodie (crocodiles).. :(

Another must-go place in Langkawi is definitely the Dataran Lang.
It's like going to Eiffel Tower when you are in Paris.

Langkawi is another local holiday destination that I would want to go again in the near future..

Am happy spending time with The Gilasssss throughout the trip! Hugzzz!!!

On the first day itself we went to the jetty where there are rows of counter offering services
to book for tours, car rentals, accommodation arrangement etc... It's like a one-stop centre!

After comparing the prices offered by a few shops,
we settled with Green Ocean Holiday Sdn Bhd because the owner gave us quite a good price.
RM 80 for tour to Pulau Payar + meal.

For the rest of the evening, we went for chocolate n liquor shopping!

For cocoa lovers who intends to grab your whole year chocolate stock,
some of the best places to get your duty free chocolateare...

Coco Valley - our tour guy said they have got promos most of the time
Perniagaan Haji Ismail - they have got alot of branches in Langkawi, but buddy Rai advised to go to the bigger ones either in Kompleks Cayman or Jalan Pandak Mayah2  Kuah.
Eastern Native Duty Free at Kuah Town - this is the shop we went to..
Cenang Mall - the duty free shops have special items.. like mini Tic Tacs!

These mini Tic Tacs are at the size of my thumb! Super cute!

Went to bed feeling a little tipsy...
Although tipsy may not be the correct word for my friends to describe me that night... :P

It was merely a short 11 months of me working at IOI Properties under CSU.
(not the glamour CSI ya)

But it was during that short period of time where I get to know these bunch of craziesss..
Yes indeed, coz they called themselves The Gilasssss.

The crazy me too has stepped into their level and was qualified to be one of the crazy ones.
No effort needed, it happened so naturally coz I'm born cuckoo (...duh!)

In IOI, I joined KKIOI (Kelab Keluarga IOI) and we, The Gilaaassss, get to
go for outdoor activities and holidays together.

One of the most memorable one is our trip to Hatyai & Krabi in 2007
(damn.. that was a long time ago!)

joyce yap blog
1st photo courtesy of OngZi! :)

And when I left, those guys still invited me to join them for their annual trip.
Don't question me why I bond better with guys.
Prolly coz they can handle my awkwardness better... haha!

Joined KKIOI to Universal Studio at Singapore in 2011.

Recently, The Gilaaassss organized a trip themselves - to Langkawi!

My impression of Langkawi is - Boooriinngggg....

Went there several times with Nick when we worked together at Star Cruises.
Aside from sight seeing and buying chocolates, I don't remember anything fun.

This trip with The Gilassssss completely changed my mind about Langkawi.

No longer a boring place - it's now filled with
ang mor cha bor in bikinis and leng chai ang mor in cool shades walking on the beach!

The whole Langkawi itself seemed like it has been revamped into
a mini Phuket where alot of shops and restaurants are catered for international tourist.

And I'm surprised that Langkawi has good eateries too!

Enough of babbling..  Some photos to share!

~ Great breakfast at Red Tomato (review here!)
~ Check-in to Malibest Resort @ Pantai Cenang
~ Stroll along the beach of Pantai Cenang
~ The Gilasss beach war
~ Dinner at Wonderland seafood @ Kuah Town

Upon arriving to Langkawi airport, we rented a van (RM250 for 3 days).
Since there are 16 of us, with big and small luggage, boy.. such a good 'bonding' time we had!

Place to stay?

Malibest Resort isn't the best resort I've been to..
But the plus point is that our chalet is facing the beautiful beach of Pantai Cenang.

joyce yap blog

However, the drawbacks are...
- The sheets has stains on it
- Toilet flush doesn't work on the 3rd day (this is a bad one)
- Room caters for 4 pax but there are only 2 towels (additional towels given only upon request)
- No mineral water bottle given for the whole 3 days
- Wifi available but not working

But... for the price we paid, the chalet is considered clean and
strategically located right infront of the beach.

After all, that's the most important thing right?

Dinner at Wonderland Restaurant @ Kuah Town is nothing to shout about.
After trying that place for dinner, and all the good reviews from tripadvisor? I beg to differ.
It wasn't that bad, but not a place for a foodie like me who seek for GOOD FOOD.
Too much use of MSG for taste enhancement.

That's a wrap for my Day 1... stay tuned as I'm working on my Day 2!!! ;)

This is the 3rd blog for the past 24 hours!!!
I'm in a blogging spreeee!!!

If you're wondering, no, I'm not overdosed with coffee.

But it has been days that an important piece of technology
called the PC is absent in my home.

And now that I've got my office laptop at home,
I have the luxury of fully utilizing it for my own pleasure and leisure.

And so.. blogging it is!

--------------------------------------------

Few months back I purchased Groupon vouchers for
dinner at Coffee Chemistry, First Subang Mall.

Groupon Deal:-

"[Up to 53% Off] 2-Course Western Meal: Grilled Salmon Steak,
Classic Roasted Lamb Shoulder, OR More + Dessert at Coffee Chemistry Signature, First Subang Mall for 1 (RM22) / 2 (RM40) / 4 (RM76) People."

Coffee Chemistry Signature at First Subang Mall

The purchase is with intention to create an
opportunity to have a nice dinner with my closest friends.

But I was way busy with coping with life till I forgotten about it.
Finally set the dinner on the very last day of redemption period.

Highest gratitude to friends who manage to leave work early and
squeeze some time out of their busy schedule just for me.

Coffee Chemistry cappuccino
Barry ordered a cappuccino which was okay, he said.
Nothing spectacular to my dismay.

Coffee Chemistry rose cappuccino
My eyes was affixed on the coffee section when I saw this.
Rose cappuccino?!!
I gotta try this!!!

Was eager to try but the excitement quickly turned into
disappointment coz it tasted like bandung.
Rose syrup flavor has covered any little possibly imagined
coffee taste in that cup of cappuccino.

Coffee Chemistry chocolate ice blended
Vince with his usual love for chocolate, ordered
ice-blended chocolate with ice cream.

He's not that picky, and he finished the drink.
Good, I guess?

Coffee Chemistry grilled salmon steak
This is my 180g grilled salmon steak served with mashed potato and vegetables.

My salmon was well prepared, but the lemon sauce that comes with
it tasted like an odd pairing.

With the salmon already fresh and nicely grilled, perhaps they need
a more subtle sauce to let the salmon "shine" instead of Mr. Lemon here
taking the credit all by itself with its tingling lemony flavor?

Coffee Chemistry classic roasted lamb shoulder
Vince's 130g classic roasted lamb shoulder served with mashed potato and vegetables.

The lamb is soft and the thick gravy is delicious!
No complaint on this... yum yummm...

Coffee Chemistry seafood pasta
Barry's seafood pasta consist of mussels, prawns, squids and fish.

Aside from the fresh seafood and creamy sauce,
one thing that I'd like to highlight here is that the heavy
usage of capsicum makes it the dominant taste in this pasta.
Lesser or maybe no capsicum at all would be better.

Coffee Chemistry fish & chips
Alicia's Coffee Chemistry Fish & Chips with side salad.

I did not try the fish fillet as I'm trying to avoid fried food for my sorethroat.
Alicia says it's nice. So I'll take her word for it.
Side salad on the other hand was entirely mine.
Finished it, nice light dressing.

affogato
Coffee Chemistry affogato
Our Affogato (Espresso topped with vanilla ice-cream)

I love the dessert and finished it, and with the rose cappuccino I had earlier,
those two kept me awake till 2am that very night!
